WA FS ERFO 2009(1)-20(2), Middle Fork Snoqualmie Emergency Repairs

Construction Update
Construction is tentatively scheduled to be complete in early December. Upon completion of the project, access will be allowed past MP 8.0
Project Overview
Flood events on the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest (Forest) in November 2008 and January 2009 resulted in extensive damage to National Forest System roads within the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River watershed. As a result, traffic cannot safely travel along Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road (Forest Service Road 56) and access was closed. King County has completed repairs up to Milepost 8.0 prior to the Forest boundary. The proposed road repair work qualifies for ERFO (Emergency Relief for Federal Owned Roads) funding. The Federal Highway Administration and U.S. Forest Service are currently developing repairs to sites and anticipate the road will be repaired by the end of 2009.

Damage occurred on Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road at mile posts (MP) 8.61, 9.2, 9.7, 9.98, 10.02, 10.7, 10.73, 10.77, 11.19, 11.23, 11.53, 12.2, and 12.45; Forest Road 5600-510 at MP 0.2; and 5640-000 at MP 0.2. The flood damaged roads are located about 10 to 15 miles northeast of North Bend, Washington. Damage includes numerous embankment failures, culvert washouts, slides and damage at two bridge sites.
