Update for March 7, 2008

Please note that beginning Monday, March 10, the road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, with mid-day openings (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.) on Monday and Wednesday. For detailed information, view the schedules under “Travel Info.”

Shoulder stabilization work is underway.  The picture below shows an area where shoulder stabilization work is complete.  Notice the rust-colored area along the slope on the left side of the road.  The rust-colored area is the welded wire facing component of the shoulder stabilization.  We used non-galvanized facing wire so the mesh would blend in with the surrounding terrain.  To account for the corrosion protection normally provided by galvanization, the facing wire thickness was increased.  The shoulder stabilization facing is connected to galvanized reinforcing mats which are buried under the road.  For more information on this type of retaining wall system, go to www.hilfiker.com and click on the “Steepened Slope” option.
